Lusers make me laugh ver. 1

Ok, here's a new column for you guys. Y'all have been getting better at sending me links to posts and articles of freetards and lusers making asses of themselves. So I'll collect them and list them, and we can all have a laugh.

Hello,

although it's a video review spoken in german language, it's really funny what the FSF recommends YOU instead the iPhone. Especially the usability is nice over there *ROFL*: Freerunner Review done by a german linux publishing mag

SSHing into you phone remotely is actually cool.. you can scare the shit out of thieves.
Anyway, they've missed the train. There's already a market leader, so now they're stuck in the price trench wars.

About the file managers: there are tons of different file managers for Windows and OsX as well. Try harder, LH!.

They FSF are a bunch of freetard zealots, there's no need to pay them any attention.

Soft core porn: nothing special. Boobs are good. Oh those are not boobs. Bummer.

Leds: can probably loaded by using a module, so it's no biggie. Yet again, try harder LH!

What about file-system performance, Multimedia scheduling, OpenOffice, Evolution, Eclipse, gEDA, and the rest of the never finished, always shitty FOSS software? Those are much better targets, requiring a firm kick in the balls.

FOSS is DEAD

The FSF is right about the development restrictions on the iPhone, though. Other smartphones don't have nearly as many limitations. On WM devices, once you get Visual Studio, MS won't stop you from publishing whatever app you want, even if it threatens cell carriers' business models or competes with their preferred vendors' products. You don't need to register your phone with Microsoft to get a special MS-signed developer certificate.

macthehun said...

>What makes Linux far superior to Microsoft's mobile software is that you can have different permutations of Linux smartphones.
This guy has absolutely no clue about the mobile phone software market. It's hopelessly fragmented, most phone producers have several different OSs on their phones and the phones don't really have a good common platform (hardware: camera, sensors, bt ; software: just limited Java and Flash). The bad developer tools (I'm looking at you Symbian) and lacking documentation make bad things worse. No good deployment methods exist either.

This is why every developer jumps on the iPhone: great hardware, great developer tools, frameworks and docs, and a great and easy way to sell apps.

Ten superflexible Linux distros for phones will find their 1% niche as on the desktop. Nobody's gonna develop great apps for it, if the infrastructure is not there.

The OpenMoko and Android are nothing but prototypes, not real products for at least a year.

The best thing about this video is the comments. An assload of freetards complaining that the video is in Adobe Flash. They will not contaminate their holy free boxes with proprietary ware. One is complaining, that it's adobe's fault that flash won't work properly on his 64 bit Linux. Half of the others demand ogg theora video.

@lis

it may not be softcore porn but it certainly goes a long way to reinforcing the shitcock theory especially when it comes to FLOSS developers

and another thing, what kind of a ridiculous "social movement" is named after a fucking dental product...

@macthehun

You clearly didn't understand what that guy was saying. At all.

As for Linux on phones, it already has more than 1% share. Android has tons of developers working on it already, and both Android and OpenMoko phones will be out before 2009.

Way to have no idea what you're talking about, idiot.

By the way, have you figured out how to use that second mouse button, yet?

"One is complaining, that it's adobe's fault that flash won't work properly on his 64 bit Linux."

The problem is there is no 64-bit flash plugin for Firefox. However, you can either run a 32-bit browser, or use nspluginwrapper.

I think I have worked out LinuxHaters problems. He is throwing flames at linux without knowing what he is protecting.

Everyone thinks of just Windows desktops not Windows Embeded. Sorry to say file managers one is a joke in the embeded world closed source on windows I know of 40 different file managers. So no Linux is not alone with lots of them.

That rebuilding kernel bit is another reason to be kicking distributions hard. The tech to avoid that exists. http://web.mit.edu/ksplice/ Linux kernel rebuild and reboots because of them could be greatly reduced. Yet distributions don't offer users this solution.

Porn in mailing lists and sites is nothing new. Even Microsoft support sites have been caught shipping it at times. Ok far worst than that one. Call it a human problem.

Please note most smart phones in history have been Windows CE/Moblie. So thanking for displaying a anti Microsoft comment Linuxhater.

With DRM Linuxhater go meet the people who acquired stuff from DRM companies that are no more. I back FSF push on that. So the 5 on iphones is not incorrect. There are other ways to stop people from sharing music illegally. Its making the music traceable. There is a difference between traceable and DRM. Traceable does not stop you from playing it. Just means if you do illegally trade it police kinda knock on your door. Reason most people are too dumb to be able to destroy the trace markers. All that DRM free music sold on web sites of commercial songs does contain it.

When I saw that fucking "Linux Edges One Step Closer to Total World Domination" article about linux based smartphones, I just had to come here and start fucking screaming.

Those stupid fucks!!! Those stupid, lying, misleading, shiteating, moron goatfuckers!

I have been putting up with "linux powered" (more like linux incapacitated) PDAs for fucking years. Here is how I would summarize it - it DOESN'T FUCKING WORK!

To get an idea of how fucking shitty a linux pda is, just imagine all the retarded, "developer doesn't give a fuck" bugs you see on desktop linux, and picture them all squished onto a small screen, with yet another broken package manager.

Man I am so pissed I don't even know where the fuck to begin.

I have fucking seen it all - I fucking BOUGHT a Sharp Zaurus PDA, back in the day when I was all doe eyed and linux brainfucked, and I wasted MONTHS and fucking MONTHS getting that fucking thing to do anything!!! That piece of shit was so fucking riddled with usability problems and bugs - and like a fucking crack addict, I thought the way to fix it was to install the even more "free" fucking OpenZaurus front end! I spent months getting that to work, before I ditched the thing in a closet somewhere. Fucking freedom baby!

LinuxHater, where the fuck were you back then?? When I finally tried Windows Mobile 2003 based PDA, only then did I realise how badly I was getting fucked by the propaganda. I was able to install ActiveSync, and Microsoft cleverly provides embedded Visual C++ 4 (+ SP4 and the PocketPC SDK) for free, and fucking guess what? I get hardware debugging bitches!! Motherfucker works!! Windows Mobile 2003 behaves in a sane and logical way!! WHY THE FUCK DID I WASTE ALL THAT FUCKING TIME WITH LINUX OS FOR PDAs!!!

*walks off mumbling profanities to self*

The only existing successful Linux based cellulars/PDAs are the Motorola cellulars.

Naturally, by choosing Linux, Motorola managed to burn away all the money they've made with the Razr series, create the shittiest, ugliest interfaces ever(that I've seen, anyway), and get royally fucked when Nokia bought Trolltech, whose Qt toolkit was the backbone of Motorola's UI.

Nokia got the nXXX series of internet tablets, that no one seems to buy, and that's about that.

FOSS is the choice of losers companies, who try it as some sort of desperate measure to stay in relevancy.

FOSS is DEAD.

BTW: I really appreciate Mark Shuttleworth - he seems like an extremely competent manager, who seems to acknowledge the major shortcoming of FLOSS and devise method to alleviate them. I just wonder how long it will take him to cut his loses and move on.

Oh, and Linux the kernel just got a kernel debugger. Windows had one for at least a decade. Happy days and celebrations!

Fragmentation is one of the issues being addressed by standard bodies.

Yes some of the old linux things are not good. Same with some of MS servings up. Who can forget Windows ME. Lot of people wish they could.

PS Mark Shuttleworth cannot fix the Linux issue. Its the Linux Standard Base that can.

People hold touches for the wrong places if Mark Shuttleworth disappears the stabilization of Linux desktop will go on quite well without him. No more important that a drop of water going over the side of bucket on to the ground being wasted when you need a bucket of water.

This guy pumped $10mil of his own money into a company set up to look after Ubuntu, and is trying to inject some sanity into the OSS community.

I would much rather run ME over ubuntu. At least with ME I can:

1. install a browser without having to recompile the kernel.

2. install older software with a few clicks rather than having to compile it just to run it (ugh)

3. install drivers without having to use tar -xvf

screw linux. I love how I can say that here and not get voted down.

All this duplication of effort, and forking, and "me too" -ism in open source development, really leads to some chaos, and holding back Linux as a platform.

But it has it's benefits. Some good stuff comes out of somebody releasing yet another distro, or yet another file system, or yet another music player or whatever. Sure, most of it is useless and terrible duplication of effort. But sometimes, somebody does things differently enough, and better enough, to stick, and that in turn causes everyone else to follow suit if the new "thing" gets popular enough.

Open source development can be a bit like throwing mud against the wall and seeing what sticks. A lot of it is mud, and slips away into oblivion, and wastes resources in the meantime. But when something does stick, it can become a big improvement over what was previously used.

Not the most efficient way for development. But it does work out in a lot of cases.

By contrast, many large software vendors can become a bloated, bureaucratic mess, and innovation and improvement can be slow moving.

.net jerkface. You just said exactly what the Linux Standard Base is working on the moment to fix. Besides you should not need to build kernel to install a browser ever.

Its a slow rising tide of a standard. Bring compatibility across Linux. It just taken 7 years to get around to packaging. The cores of Linux Distributions are the closest to each other they have been in complete Linux history. Ubuntu lead is really not working on that.

This is why I am saying if you are looking at old Linux's and how they were. 12 months time you could be proved very badly wrong.

Signs of internal change are more than showing.

@thecodewitch: "This guy [Shuttleworth] pumped $10mil of his own money into a company set up to look after Ubuntu, and is trying to inject some sanity into the OSS community."

It wasn't for philanthropic or humanitarian reasons, I can assure you. Shuttleworth was trying to be the Bill Gates equivalent of Linux, and he interestingly chose to focus on the desktop niche that Red Hat and others ignored. Ubuntu isn't altogether bad, compared to Windows, but it isn't that great, either. People that sing its praises aren't hardcore users. They're the lightweight hobbyists who are running Linux for the first time, haven't built up enough anger over driver problems, crashes, and similar problems to realize that they're full of shit.

Shuttleworth has plenty of money, but even he is going to drop Canonical eventually, when the burn rate becomes too high. Unless he can get some more of you FOSS slaves to work for him. Whaddayasay, Linux slaves? C'mon, help Shuttleworth earn an extra billion while you languish in daddy's basement. Morons.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've heard the same bullshit propaganda before: "Just you wait ... give it another year ... you'll see ... things will be so much better ... blah, blah, blah ..." But, then, things DON'T get better; in fact, the dipshits figure out brand new ways to introduce incompatibility between the distros? Yet more forks. Yet more bad ideas. And then you fosstards you have the temerity to blast Microsoft for its screw-ups; despite the fact that Microsoft actually ships products that work across a huge matrix of hardware, all the while maintaining pretty damned good backward compatibility. Shove that up your Linux Base, douchebags.

Yeah, it's worked so well in the pa- ... oh, maybe not. LSB has been plugging away for 7 years, and we're still inundanted with crappy incompatible ABIs, differing filesystem layouts, differing configuration options, etc, etc, etc. Thank GOD that standardization has worked so well...

Instead of wasting several more years bashing your head against a wall and getting nowhere, I have a better solution: Use Windows or the Mac. Standardization is built-in already. No need to fuck around with LSB.

@anonymous: Android has tons of developers working on it already, and both Android and OpenMoko phones will be out before 2009.

Here's the problem, dipshit: You can put Linux on as many phones as you like but you need a cellular carrier who's willing to DISTRIBUTE them, in order to gain market share. Carriers aren't going to open up their platform and take it up the ass.

Know why? It's simple. Carriers make a TON of bread by selling SMS services on their proprietary networks. As soon as the carrier opens up the IP stack to third party developers, they're basically asking third party developers to fuck them (the carriers) up the ass. Devs are going to create alternate messaging architectures and/or create new SMS gateways which don't cost the sender any money. Do you really think that carriers are going to voluntarily allow this to happen? If you said yes, you're a dumbass. Of course they're NOT going to open up their networks. They want to tightly constrain the traffic as much as possible. They want to own the apps. They want to own the content. They want to act as the solitary gatekeeper for all network traffic.

Because, in the absence of these controls, all they can charge for is bandwidth. And, when you get pushed that far down the food chain, you have no way of differentiating your service. You might as well just pop a cap in your own head, after you give away your primary advantage. Not gonna happen.

The fact that you FOSS douchebags think that developing the phone is the BATTLE just reveals how stupid and out of touch you are. The battle needs to be fought at the carrier level, and no carrier is going to willingly sell a phone that bypasses their toll booth.

Linux was never about money. The fact that open-source software could never be made into a revenue stream is just one of the failures of the FOSS world. That's why Red Hat and Novell both focus on enterprise and server levels. And how exactly can Shuttleworth make billions off of what is essentially a free product? Ubuntu even ships the CD to you free. Customer support has never been a dependable source of income though Redhat tried that before as well. It certainly doesn't make any significant money for a Linux distributor, that's for sure. I reckon that Shuttleworth will eventually recognize the inherent disorganization and lack of consenses (or what LHB calls a clusterfuck, usually) within Linux developers and gradually retreat from funding the company and/or Ubuntu. What will remain will the same ''community developers'' who will continue to have grand dreams of a successful Linux distro dethroning Windows, hoping to keep the project alive, but the distro will end up in obscurity - just like one of the many distros before Ubuntu which focused on usability, became very popular for a while, and then died off (like Mandriva and the many Debian spin-offs).

> it's always better to wait 4 years for a new M$ product to get fixes to your problems.

There's no waiting involved since with Windows and OSX, these things work OUT OF THE BOX.

Seriously, how many times have you seen a Windows user complain about something as basic and elementary as an LED light not working?

No OS is perfect but these kind of trivial issues plague Linux and are a non-issue with proprietary OSs. Hell, when you have Linux developers complaining about these problems, you know there is a serious problem...

I really think the failure of Ubuntu will seal the fate of Linux. The Linux world hasn't seen a distro that has had this much popularity, ease of use or attention to usability. Whatever you think of Linux, this is the best they have to offer.

With Canonical going down, the major argument of FOSS devs that lack of corporate backing keeps Linux from growing on the desktop will finally be shattered. Hell, Ubuntu even managed a deal with Dell, thus giving a rest to another long-standing defense of FOSS devs that Linux doesn't get desktop recognition or a choice as an OS by vendors. When Ubuntu goes down, they'll be taking the community and the FOSS dreams of desktop dominance and Windows dethroning with them.

I enjoy your blog LH. One of the things that encouraged me into examining Linux (Ubuntu specifically) was Microsoft's changes to its Windows Explorer. One annoying change MS had down was to affect the display of the date of files. In some folders, the dates are not displayed for each file. So when I try to sort a particular folder, the files are not sorted properly. Trying to fix the problem in preferences does not always solve the problem.

Ubuntu does not have that problem when it comes to displaying file information. However, if I want to search for files that are not part of my home directory (such as an external drive), I cannot. I did find one a new manager that works, but it does seem that each OS has its flaws and issues. Linux has the most.
